Salt + Ko — a restaurant site that fills tables and books parties.

A Southfield gastropub with four revenue streams — reservations, catering, private parties, and online orders — running on a rented template. The case for an owned brand.

Salt + Ko

Southfield, MI · bar & grill, gastropub

The business: Salt + Ko is chef Ryan Eli Salter's solo introduction to the Michigan restaurant scene — a 3,200 sq. ft. gastropub opened June 2023 that redefines the classic with American classics, fresh ingredients, craft cocktails and "social tonics," live entertainment, and a monthly brunch party series. Four revenue streams run through the website: reservations, catering, private parties, and online ordering.

The gap we saw

The current site runs on a restaurant SaaS template — the footer literally says "Website design, Social Media marketing and Email marketing provided by SpotHopper." That means the site looks like every other restaurant on the platform, brand control is rented, and the SEO value of the restaurant's own name is split with the template provider. For a chef-led concept with a real identity — "roots in flavor, heart in service" — the website should feel as distinctive as the food.
